Decorating from your home with both of us at home.
I have completed this type of decorating with numerous clients who have moved out of state. So this is not a new process for me.
We are going through some crazy times. And the last thing you want is to be stuck in is a place you are not happy with. So let's change that and get you happy.
Normally, a decorating consultation for a room is completed in a couple of hours. Know that this process takes longer, so patience is necessary on both our parts. How do I know it takes longer? Because several of my clients have moved out of state and I have helped them virtually decorate many rooms (and, yes, some have flown me in to work on rooms). One client moved to Florida and I worked on 3 rooms. Another moved to Indiana then Arizonia and I worked on the Great Room and an Exterior room. Plus her son moved to Chicago and we completely decorated his condo using what he already and added new pieces; and it looked gorgeous in the end!
Even though this takes longer, my rates are not increased.
Below is a sample of a client I worked with in Florida. Scroll past the pictures for more information about this service and how it works.
Virtual Decorating a Lake House
This client bought their lake house about a year ago. They stay there most of the summer and plan to retire there in the near future.
She hates when she's there. They have tested many colors of gray on the walls.... because her 30 something kids say that's the way to go. But she hates gray.
One thing I warn clients about: trending colors are not always what you need. Because we all have a color palette that we are drawn to.... always. A color must make you feel happy in you home.
Another decision she needed to make was what to do with the carpeting. Should she run the wood from the entry all the way through or change out to new carpeting.
A couple of things she said she wanted was light and airy. She wanted it to feel relaxing. She wanted neutral colors. No silver or gray.
The first thing I pointed out was the railing is very distracting- it doesn't fit in with the neutral colors she is desiring. So the railings will be sanded and stained a light beige. There is also too much wall and we need to break that up with some texture. So the wall the fireplace is on with have shiplap with a whitewash.
The flooring was too orange and it clashed with the countertops in the kitchen. So, I recommended the flooring be all new wood with a softer color.
And the colors will be a vary pale teal color.
With these few changes, she will now have the Lake House she loves to go to visit... and eventually retire in.
Virtual Decorating a small Condo- giving a kitchen a facelift
This is for a 20 something young man. The kitchen is dark and needs a facelift. The budget is small for this kitchen update. We are going to work with the hunter green tile flooring. He has a dog, and the door at the end of the kitchen will be the point of entry for the dog.
He wants it lighter and brighter. White upper cabinets and white lower cabinets didn't make sense for a dirty dog to pass through the space. So we decided on a green lower cabinet with the white upper cabinets. A sage backsplash laid in an unexpected pattern using subway tile. And, of course, the lighting needs to be improved.
It didn't take much to update this kitchen.
Virtual Decorating for a Client moving to Columbus from out of state
This family was moving from New England to Ohio. Right in the middle of the Pandemic. She didn't want anyone in her house. And she was extremely stressed because she had some of her furniture, but not all of it. And the house just didn't feel good.
So I did a layout of furniture for 4 rooms; the Hearth room, the Living Room, the Lower Level Family Room and the daughter's bedroom (27 year old). She really doesn't like everything that she has, but doesn't want to buy. The furniture needed balancing in all of the rooms. I provided her with the hand drawn layout. And she wanted a plan to purchase new furniture as soon as possible.
The top picture is the layout of furniture for the future when she purchases new pieces. She was also given pictures of the pieces to purchase (not included here).
And, just how does the decorating process start? Finding out your needs, wants, wishes, first. Then I need pictures of the room (this was taken off of the listing for the house, and the floors are stained a beautiful brown and the walls are a light gray now.). I color code the areas that I need measured so I can start laying out the furniture.
Normally, a room is completed in a couple of hours. Virtual Decorating can take a couple of days to get the proper combination of furniture and colors.
Here's an example of Virtual Decorating in an empty Loft in the Clintonville area.
This is a virtual decorating design for a young woman who had recently moved in to a loft apartment in the Clintonville area of Columbus. Young, vibrant, sweet lady.
Her apartment is basically empty. Her favorite colors are mint green, pink and light blue. She loves to cook and entertain friends. She has quite a few books and needs a desk area, outside of her bedroom (good Feng Shui not to have work space in the bedroom). This is a one bedroom, 782 square foot loft apartment. And she loves to entertain between 4-8 people. She wanted something mid century modern and eclectic with whimsy built in! She preferred a lighter look with lots of pink!
I completed a layout for her, and based on her needs, this is the Design Board I created for her. (I am not including the layout this time.
Here's a Sample of Virtual Decorating for a Florida Client March 15, 2020
Redecorating a bathroom in Florida March 15, 2020
Called: Virtual Decorating, Remote Decorating or E-Design.
This Client hated the textured walls in this bathroom. She wanted to wallpaper over it. Textured walls are very common in homes in southern states. She mentioned wall papering over them. That wasn’t the answer. First, the color was wrong. This is a very small bathroom and just needed the walls to recede. Second, the higher the sheen, the more visible the texture or imperfections on the wall. Third, there was no place to hang towels.
So I recommended a couple of different colors, ordering her samples to hang on her wall. This monochromatic bathroom will now seem more open, rather than so choppy with the color variations. I also recommended a matte finish bath paint. We then removed the hand towel hooks for smaller, less obtrusive ones and repurposed the wall art where the former large hooks were located. Finally, for warmth, a cute wood shelf with hooks was added for hanging towels and robes.
Next, we moved to the niches. Now here is where she needed wallpaper. I selected 3 options that would all work for her. She immediately decided the one she liked. In one of the niches she wants to make of a collage of pictures for her daughter's senior pictures. I was able to show her the placement of the framed photos as well, she was supplied with the size she needed.
I have worked with client in 3 states and since I have been in the home and know her style, yes, this took less time than working with a new client.

It starts with a phone call to discuss your needs and then you can decide if you want to proceed.
Full payment is required if you decide to move forward.
Every home and circumstance is different. When in homes, this is the case. This hasn't changed. So I could send you a questionnaire, I could send you a drawing to add the sizes.
Next, I could have you video a room or take pictures of your room and have you send those over to me. I'll have you send any inspiration pictures that you have.
If measuring is required, then I will give you instructions on what to measure and have you email the information back.
One or two face-to-face conversations will take place. We'll schedule that time after the information is received from you.
After all information is gathered, then I will spend time creating the decorating Plan for you. This will include the size of the items, the colors, and then the Mood Board (picture board) of what you are looking for.
Once that is completed, then I email it back to you. And if there are any elements not suiting to you, then I will find the appropriate items to give you a home you will LOVE!
Then final payment is made after you have a decorating plan that works for you
When we come out of this ... I don't even know what to call it, you will be ready with a plan to create the home of your dreams!
